OFF THE BEATEN PATHS
Day trip near Rome
DESCRIZIONE
Between Lakes and Mountains
A special tour for the most curious, for those who love the adventure and the discovery of hidden corners and off the beaten paths, real gems of the territory, especially for the food and beverage tradition.
We offer you the possibility to decide your favourite place to visit among our proposals, according to your needs and tastes; JR Pomerium will take care about the rest!
– Anguillara Sabazia, a little town on the Sabatini Mounts facing the Bracciano Lake. Anguillara offers a real PEACE OF MIND: far from the crowded city, here you can fall in love with breathtaking views from the top of the town, walk along the lake together with swans and ducks, enjoy a boat trip to see the surroundings or relax on the shoreline with a nice home-made gelato.
– Calcata: in the Treja Valley, this town offers a terrific panorama! Here you’ll come back in time, suspended on a medieval tuff cliff, you’ll see a rare example of a naturally fortified village, without any human help. In its narrow streets you’ll find plenty of little handicraft and art shops. The village, abandoned in the 30s (then repopulated), has taken the name of “dying town”, name also given to another particular town in Lazio, Civita di Bagnoregio.
– Civita di Bagnoregio: on the Umbria’s borders, this village-museum is recognized as one the most beautiful towns in Italy. Its origins are definetely very old, dated back to the IX century b.C., Civita can enchant anyone. Abandoned for a long time, Civita is now connected to the “land” thanks to a long viaduct re-built more and more times.
– Sermoneta: dated back to the Early Middle Ages and keeper of traces belonging to the presence of Templars in Lazio, this village hosts a beautiful castle which visit has not to be missed: the Caetani Castle. From the Belvedere you can enjoy the fantastic view of the surrounding countryside, while in the historic centre it’s possible to purchase typical products of the area.
